BitMap Monogram
The Bitmap Monogram was our first project in GDSN223. The goal was to help us get comfortable using the Pen Tool again while creating a bold, graphic design based on our initials. For this assignment, we had to follow a strict set of rules: no curves, no stair-stepping, and all straight lines. These limitations pushed us to think creatively about how to build letterforms with a pixelated, blocky feel. I designed my monogram using my initials, DGO, and focused on balancing the shapes while keeping everything clean and readable. Even though it seems simple at first, this project helped us explore composition, spacing, and how to create something unique within tight constraints. It was a great introduction to thinking like a designer—paying attention to structure, rhythm, and the impact of every point and line. Starting the semester with this project set a strong foundation for the rest of the course.
