Menu Reboot

For our first project in Form and Content (GDSN 224), we redesigned the menu for Storm Castle Café in Bozeman. The original menu had issues like inconsistent structure, spelling errors, and poor design. We were required to use only typography, a black-and-white color scheme, and include all provided content. The entire project was created in InDesign. After experimenting with layouts, I focused on creating hierarchy, choosing the right typefaces, and establishing visual balance. We developed five versions of our design and received peer critiques, which helped me fix kerning, tracking, and orphans I hadn’t initially noticed. We also did a typeface pairing exercise that helped me match headline and body fonts. Using lines and boxes helped organize the content, making it more readable. I experimented with vertical text but couldn’t integrate it smoothly. My final two designs feel clean and modern, like something you'd see in a well-designed, contemporary restaurant.
